Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told reporters that Biden’s agenda seems “a little hazy” and needs a “more coherent vision,” reports The Hill.
Biden has previously promised to have the “single most diverse cabinet” in American history. So far, he has made some historic picks.
Some progressive critics are disappointed with the lack of ideological diversity in the cabinet.
In the past, AOC has called on Biden to choose progressive leaders for top White House roles.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized Joe Biden for his cabinet picks when speaking to reporters.
Ocasio-Cortez told reporters at the Capitol that the President-elect’s choices for top White house roles suggest that his agenda is “a little hazy,” reports The Hill.
She also said that Biden needs a “more cohesive vision” for his cabinet.
The Democratic congresswoman told reporters on Wednesday: “You have an individual appointment here, an individual appointment there. We can wrestle about whether they are bold enough or ambitious enough, especially given the uncertainty and what kind of Senate we’re going to have.”
Ocasio-Cortez continued: “But aside from that, I think one of the things I’m looking for when I see all of these picks put together is: What is the agenda? What is this overall vision going to be?”
“And to me, I think that’s a little hazy,” she added.
In recent weeks, Biden has announced a slate of names he intends to nominate to serve in his cabinet. Many of them are historic picks.
Xavier Becerra would be the first Latino person to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Alejandro Mayorkas would be the first-ever immigrant to lead Homeland Security. Janet Yellen, if confirmed by the Senate, would be the first woman to run the Treasury.
These are all in line with Biden’s promise to build the “single most diverse cabinet based on race, color, based on gender that’s ever existed in the United States of America.”
Some critics, however, believe that there isn’t enough ideological diversity.
In October, Ocasio-Cortez called on Biden to choose progressive leaders for his cabinet.
Since then, the newest member of ‘The Squad’ – Jamaal Bowman – has expressed his dissatisfaction with the current number of progressives chosen.
Speaking to the Independent, a Biden transition spokesperson commented: “Amid the crises facing the country, President-elect Biden is building a team of qualified and competent leaders to get things back on track and advance his bold agenda to build back better.”
